This Connection

An article on The Singers Room from February of 2023: “Songs About Connection” featured our song ‘This Connection’.  It was quite an interesting take on the track.  The article itself points out songs about connection.  A wonderful subject for singers approaching a song, and for listeners as we all seek and relish connection in some form or another.

The article mentions our song as a smooth and soulful R&B song which I love!  We’re a goth/hard rock/bordering on metal band!  But for us was intended as a pure, dark goth rock track.  The author is quite correct though that it is smooth and has all the elements of R&B.  It grooves and has a smooth approach and drives from beginning to end.

Their interpretation of the lyrics suggests a person seeking a deeper connection with a love interest.  I can totally see how someone might interpret it that way.  I actually wrote the lyrics from the perspective of a mortal human finding connection with an immortal, undead spirit. But perhaps there is also a connection of love involved as well.

The subject of connection runs through a lot of Lucious Bloodfire songs and is a central theme to the whole persona of Lucious and the band.  Lucious is a vampire from 17th century Europe who made his way to the New World to become super famous and take over the world.  But beyond that underlies a desire to let people be who they wish to be and be free to connect as they see fit. To call out those that wish to divide us and find a way for everyone to live in peace and coexist without conflict.
